10 Tips for Effective Leadership in the Digital Age

Employee engagement is critical to the success of any organization. Gallup, a global analytics and consulting firm, has developed the Q12 survey to measure employee engagement. The Q12 is based on 12 questions that assess employee engagement levels and identifies factors that impact employee productivity and satisfaction.
The Q12 factors are:
- I know what is expected of me at work.
- I have the materials and equipment I need to do my work right.
- At work, I have the opportunity to do what I do best every day.
- In the last seven days, I have received recognition or praise for doing good work.
- My supervisor, or someone at work, seems to care about me as a person.
- There is someone at work who encourages my development.
- At work, my opinions seem to count.
- The mission or purpose of my organization makes me feel my job is important.
- My coworkers are committed to doing quality work.
- 10.I have a best friend at work.
- 11.In the last six months, someone at work has talked to me about my progress.
- 12.This last year, I have had opportunities at work to learn and grow.
The Q12 survey can help leaders identify areas where employee engagement can be improved. In addition to the Q12, there are other methods and tools that can be used to measure engagement, including pulse surveys, focus groups, and one-on-one conversations with employees.
Leaders can use the Q12 survey results to develop strategies to increase employee engagement and productivity. For example, if the survey shows that employees don't feel valued, leaders can recognize and reward their team members for their hard work and achievements. If the survey indicates that employees don't have opportunities for development, leaders can provide training and development programs.
In addition to using the Q12, our RISE methodology includes other tools and assessments that can help leaders develop themselves and their teams. For example, we use the Leadership Challenge assessment tool, which focuses on five key practices of exemplary leadership: model the way, inspire a shared vision, challenge the process, enable others to act, and encourage the heart.
Overall, the Q12 survey is a helpful tool for leaders to measure employee engagement and identify areas for improvement. At RISE, we believe in taking a holistic and personalized approach to leadership development, which includes a focus on employee engagement, self-awareness, peer group learning, expert coaching, and measurable results.
